Summer is made for beach days, lounging by the pool with a refreshing cocktail, and the good ol’ vacation time and leaving the office behind! However, it’s also a time to rethink how we care for our skin as the days start to get warmer and probably more humid. Being able to adjust a few things can definitely make a difference. Now this may seem repetitive but trust us it’s still important.
SO let’s begin with the most obvious one: wearing sunscreen.
1. SPF! SPF! SPF!
Let this be the ultimate, most fundamental, don’t leave your house tip you can take away from this entire thing. Just as wearing sunscreen during the winter is necessary, it’s especially important to wear it during the summer, for obvious reasons. And although it’s our first step here, keep in mind that it should be your last step in your skincare routine. Make sure you’re applying it regularly every couple of hours if you really want it to work.
2. No Makeup, Makeup Look
During the summer we opt for lighter clothes to keep us cool during the day, consider the same for your makeup. Heavy liquid foundation can clog your pores which can result in breakouts. Enjoy the summer breeze! Let your skin breathe. Now if you absolutely feel like you need to wear something, perhaps it’s a day in the office or brunch with the girls, opt for makeup with SPF. Colorescience offers a great variety of tinted sunscreen that will give you an impeccable look while staying protected.
3. Don’t Forget to Exfoliate
Between wearing sunscreen and sweating, it can definitely affect your skin. Keep exfoliating at least twice a week to help unclog your pores and avoid any unwanted blemishes. But don’t overdo it, especially if you’re sunburned, let your skin heal on its own first.
4. Stay In The Shade
We’re on your team, don’t get us wrong. We love the warmth of the sun on our skin but we also want to lean on the side of caution. Think of the long term effects of being exposed to the sun for long periods of time. If not absolutely necessary, try to avoid the sun as best as you can. But if you must, wearing sun-protective clothing, sunglasses or laying under an umbrella can help.
Summer is here for a short period of time, enjoy it the best you can while also being kind to your skin. Nourish it with these simple steps and go out there and be great!
