Biostimulator

To help you achieve the best possible results, please follow these aftercare instructions carefully following your dermal filler treatment.

Safety & Side Effects

Safety Information

Both Sculptra® and Radiesse® are FDA-approved, well-studied biostimulatory injectables with established safety profiles when administered by trained medical professionals. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, these products cannot be reversed with hyaluronidase, making proper patient selection, precise technique, and conservative dosing essential.

Common Side Effects

Common treatment-related reactions may include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, or mild discomfort at the injection sites. These effects are typically temporary and resolve within 5–7 days. Sculptra® may cause more noticeable initial swelling, which can temporarily mask treatment results.

Rare Side Effects

Although uncommon, potential risks include nodule formation, delayed inflammatory nodules, prolonged swelling, asymmetry, or infection. Nodule formation is more commonly associated with Sculptra® if proper dilution, injection technique, or post-treatment massage instructions are not followed. Vascular occlusion is rare but represents a serious complication requiring immediate medical attention.

Contraindications

Biostimulator treatments may not be appropriate for patients with active skin infections or inflammation in the treatment area, bleeding disorders, certain autoimmune conditions, known hypersensitivity to product ingredients, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Sculptra® is generally not recommended for highly mobile areas such as the lips.

Important Disclosure

Please inform your provider of all medications and supplements you are taking, particularly blood thinners, as well as any previous injectable treatments, history of granulomas or inflammatory reactions, autoimmune conditions, connective tissue disorders, or other relevant medical concerns.

Treatment Expectations

Biostimulators work by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production, meaning results develop gradually over time. Visible improvement typically occurs over 3–6 months, and a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal results. Individual outcomes vary based on age, skin quality, degree of volume loss, treatment area, and each patient’s unique collagen response.

Typical Treatment Protocol

1. Consultation & Assessment
Comprehensive facial assessment, including evaluation of volume loss, skin laxity, tissue quality, facial anatomy, and aesthetic goals. Product selection (Sculptra®, Radiesse®, or a combination approach) is discussed and customized to your individual needs.

2. Preparation
The treatment area is cleansed and prepared. Medical history, contraindications, and informed consent are reviewed. Topical anesthetic may be applied for additional comfort, and treatment areas are marked as needed.

3. Treatment
The selected biostimulator is carefully administered using a fine needle or blunt-tip cannula at precise depths to support collagen stimulation, structural support, and natural-looking rejuvenation.

4. Post-Treatment Care
Treatment areas are assessed for symmetry and optimal placement. Ice may be applied to minimize swelling and discomfort. Patients treated with Sculptra® will be instructed to follow the 5-5-5 massage protocol: massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days.

5. Follow-Up & Maintenance
Post-care instructions are reviewed and follow-up appointments are scheduled. Sculptra® often requires a series of 2–3 treatments spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, while Radiesse® treatment plans vary based on individual goals. Follow-up assessments allow your provider to evaluate collagen stimulation and determine whether additional treatment is recommended.
