BIOSTIMULATORS
Sculptra® & Radiesse® Collagen Induction. Structural Renewal. Long-Term Volume.
Biostimulators are injectable treatments that work beneath the skin's surface to stimulate your body's own collagen production, restoring lost structural support gradually and naturally. Unlike traditional fillers, results aren't immediate. They build. The outcome is a progressive, long-lasting improvement in skin quality, firmness, and volume that looks and feels like your own tissue.

What are Biostimulators?
Biostimulators are a class of injectable aesthetic treatments that function by triggering the body’s fibroblast activity — stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin rather than simply adding volume through gel displacement. The two most established biostimulators in clinical use are Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse® (calcium hydroxylapatite).
Sculptra® (Poly-L-Lactic Acid / PLLA) Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid — a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic polymer that has been used in dissolvable sutures for decades. When injected into the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue, PLLA microparticles trigger a controlled inflammatory response that stimulates fibroblast proliferation and new collagen synthesis. The PLLA is gradually absorbed over time; the collagen it generates remains. Results develop slowly over 3–6 months and can last 2 years or more.
Radiesse® (Calcium Hydroxylapatite / CaHA) Radiesse® is an FDA-approved injectable composed of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. CaHA is a mineral compound naturally found in bone and teeth — making it highly biocompatible. Upon injection, the gel carrier provides immediate volume while the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold, stimulating collagen and elastin production as they are gradually resorbed. Results are both immediate and progressive, typically lasting 12–18 months or longer.
Both products are non-hyaluronic acid, non-reversible with hyaluronidase, and require a thorough assessment and conservative approach to treatment planning.
Why Choose Biostimulators?
Collagen — not just volume Rather than simply occupying space, biostimulators activate your skin’s own regenerative capacity. The structural improvement you see is built from your own tissue.
Progressive, natural-looking results Because change occurs gradually over weeks and months, results integrate seamlessly with your natural appearance — without the sudden shift associated with volumizing fillers.
Long-lasting outcomes Sculptra® results can persist for 2+ years. Radiesse® typically lasts 12–18 months. Both outperform standard HA fillers in longevity, particularly for patients seeking structural restoration rather than superficial correction.
Skin quality improvement Beyond volumization, biostimulators improve overall skin texture, thickness, and firmness — addressing the dermal thinning that underlies many visible signs of aging.
Potential Benefits
Facial Volume
Restoration
Rebuilds lost structural volume in the cheeks, temples, and midface — lifting and supporting overlying tissue as new collagen integrates over time.
Skin Thickening and
Firmness
Stimulates dermal collagen and elastin production, improving skin density and resilience, reducing the crepey, lax quality associated with age-related tissue thinning.
Jawline and Lower Face Contouring
Radiesse in particular provides immediate lift and definition along the jawline and chin, with progressive improvement as biostimulation takes effect.
Decolletage and Neck Rejuvenation
Both products can be used off-face, addressing skin laxity, crepiness, and volume loss in the neck and chest with a diluted, microdroplet technique.
Hand
Rejuvenation
Radiesse is FDA-approved for hand augmentation, restoring dorsal volume and improving the appearance of prominent tendons and vasculature.
Collagen Framework Rebuilding
Over a treatment series, biostimulators rebuild the underlying collagen scaffold that supports skin structure, addressing root causes of aging rather than surface signs alone.

Frequently asked Questions
How are biostimulators different from dermal fillers?
Traditional HA fillers add immediate volume through gel displacement and are reversible with hyaluronidase. Biostimulators work by triggering your body’s own collagen production, change is gradual, structural, and built from your own tissue. Neither Sculptra® nor Radiesse® can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, making precise technique and conservative treatment planning essential.
When will I see results?
Radiesse® provides some immediate volume from its gel carrier, with progressive improvement over 2-3 months as biostimulation takes effect. Sculptra® results are entirely gradual, almost patients begin noticing changes at 6-8 weeks, with full results developing over 3-6 months following a complete treatment series.
How many sessions do I need?
Sculptra® typically requires 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal collagen induction. Radiesse® may achieve goals in 1-2 sessions depending on the degree of volume loss and treatment area. Your clinician will assess response between sessions and advise accordingly.
How long do results last?
Sculptra® results commonly last 2 years or more. Radiesse® typically lasts 12-18 months. Both outperform standard HA fillers in longevity, particularly for structural correction and skin quality improvement.
Can biostimulators be combined with other treatments?
Yes, biostimulators are commonly used alongside HA fillers, toxin injections, laser resurfacing, and PRF treatments as part of a comprehensive rejuvenation plan. Sequencing and timing are important; your clinician will advise on the optimal combination approach for your goals.
Are they suitable for all skin types?
Both Sculptra® and Radiesse® are generally appropriate across skin types and tones. A thorough clinical assessment is required to evaluate candidacy based on individual anatomy, health history, skin laxity, and treatment goals.
When to Schedule Your Treatment
Because biostimulators build collagen gradually, we recommend scheduling treatment 2–3 months before any special event. Results continue to improve over several months, with maintenance treatments typically recommended every 1–2 years.
