Care Instructions

Dermal Fillers

To help you achieve the best possible results, please follow these aftercare instructions carefully following your dermal filler treatment.

Safety & Side Effects

Dermal fillers administered by a trained clinician using FDA-approved products carry a well-established safety profile. Product selection, injection depth, and anatomical knowledge are critical factors in both outcomes and risk mitigation.

Common reactions Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness at injection sites, typically resolving within 3–7 days. Lips and under-eye areas may experience more pronounced initial swelling.

Rare side effects Nodules or lumpiness, prolonged swelling, Tyndall effect (bluish discoloration from superficial placement), delayed hypersensitivity reactions, or infection — uncommon when performed by qualified clinicians using sterile technique.

Serious risks Vascular occlusion — inadvertent injection into or compression of a blood vessel — is a rare but serious complication. Prompt recognition and treatment with hyaluronidase are critical. Choosing an experienced injector with emergency protocols in place is essential.

Contraindications Active skin infection, allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine (present in most formulations), bleeding disorders, anticoagulant therapy, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or autoimmune conditions affecting connective tissue.

Disclosure required Inform your provider of all medications and supplements — particularly blood thinners, NSAIDs, and fish oil — previous filler treatments and products used, history of cold sores near treatment areas, and any known allergies.

Results are visible immediately and continue to refine over 7–14 days as swelling resolves. Duration varies by product, treatment area, and individual metabolism. Lifestyle factors including sun exposure, smoking, and activity level influence longevity.

Typical Treatment Protocol

    1. Initial consultation and facial assessment, including a review of anatomy, volume loss patterns, asymmetries, and treatment goals. Product selection and placement strategy discussed.

    2. Pre-treatment preparation — topical anaesthetic applied to treatment areas. Skin cleansed and marked. Medical history and consent reviewed.

    3. Filler administered via fine needle or blunt-tip cannula, depending on treatment zone and technique. Injections placed at precise depths to support natural anatomical structure.

    4. Immediate assessment of symmetry, volume, and contour. Minor adjustments made chairside as needed. Ice applied post-treatment to minimize swelling.

    5. Post-care instructions provided — including activity restrictions, massage guidance (if applicable), and follow-up scheduling. Touch-up or review appointment offered at 2 weeks.
