Safety & Side Effects
MicroLaserPeel® is a well-established, FDA-cleared ablative resurfacing procedure. When performed by a trained clinician at appropriate settings for your skin type, it carries a strong safety profile across a range of Fitzpatrick skin types.
Common reactions Redness, warmth, swelling, and a sunburn-like sensation immediately following treatment — typically subsiding within 24–48 hours. Peeling and flaking generally begin by day 2–3 and resolve by day 4–7 depending on treatment depth.
Rare side effects Prolonged redness, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, infection, or scarring — rare when treatment parameters are appropriate and post-care instructions are followed. Risk increases with active tan, recent sun exposure, or deeper peel settings on higher Fitzpatrick skin types.
Contraindications Active skin infection or open wounds, recent isotretinoin use (within 6–12 months), active tan or self-tanner use within two weeks, history of keloid scarring, pregnancy, or certain autoimmune conditions affecting skin healing.
Disclosure required Inform your provider of all medications (particularly anticoagulants, photosensitizing drugs, and retinoids), medical history, history of cold sores or fever blisters, previous laser treatments, and recent sun exposure.
Results develop as skin heals and remodels over 2–6 weeks post-treatment. Final outcomes depend on treatment depth, number of sessions, skin condition, Fitzpatrick type, and post-care adherence. Individual results vary.
Typical Treatment Protocol
1. Initial consultation and skin assessment to determine treatment depth, coverage area, and candidacy based on skin type, Fitzpatrick classification, and lifestyle factors.
2. Pre-treatment preparation, including topical anaesthetic application. Treatment area cleansed and prepped under clinical conditions.
3. MicroLaserPeel® administered using Sciton’s computer-guided handpiece. Laser energy precisely ablates the epidermis at the calibrated depth. Procedure typically completed in 15–30 minutes.
4. Immediate post-treatment care — ice or cooling applied to reduce initial redness and swelling; protective barrier ointment applied to treated skin.
5. Post-care instructions provided; follow-up scheduled. Gentle cleanser and moisturizer recommended until skin fully exfoliates. Sun avoidance required for a minimum of six weeks post-treatment.
Treatments may be repeated every 6–8 weeks. Most patients achieve desired outcomes in 1–3 sessions. Deeper concerns may benefit from a series or combination approach.
